The Only Two Places in the World: January 25-26
A projection show of work by Paul Christean and John Brandon, Salt Lake natives and friends interested in photography since they went to high school together over 50 years ago. The title refers to the saying that there are only two places in the world—onstage and off. Mr. Christean’s work is gritty street photography, captured with startling precision and objectiveness. Mr. Brandon shoots live dance—movement in performance, totally unposed—that feels spontaneous and personal, like being there. Through some alchemy of antithesis, their vastly different approaches to almost opposite subject matter consolidates into poignant theater.
The photos are presented in dramatic large-scale projections that take place in a large theater space. The Projection Show plays on a roughly 25min loop during Open Hours. With a cash bar and limited to 21 and over, the free reception is a chance to mingle with the photographers and SB Dance artists, enjoy the Projection Show, and listen to live jazz by a quartet headed by Denson Angula, one of the most formidable musicians in Utah.
